Vegetable RecipesScalloped Cabbage

  • 1/2 Large Cabbage or more depending on how big the cabbage is.

  • 1/2 Onion sliced

  • 2 Tbs Butter

  • 2 Tbs Flour

  • Milk, about a cup. Add more for a thick white sauce.

  • Salt to taste

  • Pepper

  • Buttered bread crumbs

Cut cabbage in chunks. Boil in salted water until wilted. Add onions. In saucepan melt butter till bubbling. Add flour and cook without burning till blended together to make a rue. Add milk a little at a time, stirring until thickened. Add salt and pepper. Mix white sauce and cabbage. Add to greased baking dish. Sprinkle top with buttery toasted bread crumbs. I make my own by grating bread and melting butter in frying pan, add crumbs and toast slightly.
Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until bubbly.
